The 2027 Spring/Summer edition of Seoul Fashion Week opened Tuesday, September 1, and for the first time in the event’s history, it’s running across two landmarks at once , Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the fashion week’s longtime home, and the World Park at Lotte World Tower in Jamsil, brought in through a new partnership with Lotte Department Store. Thirty-one brands are staging runway shows and presentations this season, with roughly 100 more taking part in the trade show running alongside it.
RE RHEE Opened DDP, and the Show Itself Made an Argument
RE RHEE , a womenswear label led by designers Rhee June-bok and Joo Hyun-jung, known for balancing trend-conscious design with understated luxury , opened the DDP schedule for the first time this season, after three consecutive years showing at Paris Fashion Week through 2026. The brand built this collection around what Korea Herald described as “the value of what remains,” worked into restrained tailoring and fine detailing.
The show itself opened with a male contemporary dancer moving against a projected shoreline, waves breaking behind him , a deliberately unhurried, cool mood that carried straight into the clothes. A white, wrinkled bodysuit gave way to an oversized khaki trench with dramatic shoulders, cropped wide-leg pants, a draped sleeveless dress in silk organza, and a high-neck windbreaker paired with a matching long skirt. Skirts layered directly over pants in matching fabric recurred through the lineup, alongside cropped trousers cut for both men and women.
2PM’s Hwang Chansung walked the runway among the models , not a stunt casting, but a genuine acting/idol crossover the show folded in naturally.
The Early Read on Spring 2027: The Trench Coat Is Doing All the Talking
One silhouette kept reappearing across the opening day’s shows , RE RHEE, HolyNumber7, and Lie Sangbong all built moments around the trench coat, each pulling it somewhere different. Oversized in khaki. Cropped in black leather. In its most extreme reading, sliced into three separate sections and reconnected with visible safety pins. Loose, deliberately undone ties, long uneven hems, crinkled fabric, and power shoulders followed close behind , early signals of where the season is actually heading, not just isolated looks.
KIMHĒKIM Opens the New Jamsil Site, Marking 10 Years
Across the city at the new Lotte World Tower location , an outdoor runway built specifically for contemporary labels, shoppers and tourists , KIMHĒKIM opens the program with its first-ever solo runway show in Korea, marking the brand’s 10th anniversary. Seoul City framed the symbolism plainly: RE RHEE represents a Korean brand that grew its reach globally through Seoul Fashion Week, while KIMHĒKIM represents a Korean label built overseas finally bringing that global presence home. “From Seoul to the world, and from the world back to Seoul.” Dunst, General Idea, E.B.M, and Mahagrid also show at the Jamsil site this week.
What’s Still Ahead
Seoul Fashion Week runs through Sunday, September 6. A K-pop dimension arrives later in the week: an exhibition of stage outfits worn by NCT, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV, and NCT WISH runs September 4–6, closing with a dedicated NCT runway on the final day , followed by a flea market of roughly 3,000 pieces tied to the group’s activities, with proceeds going to charity. Berlin Fashion Showroom returns for its second year, open to buyers and press September 1–2 at ZZON Seongsu, with twelve German brands including Marke, SF1OG, and PLNGNS. Jewellery Week runs the full length of the event, with its own runway show on Friday, September 4, featuring ten Seoul-based designer jewelry brands.
Two venues, one city, and a season that’s making its argument early: this is fashion built to be shopped, not just watched , QR codes at Jamsil let attendees buy runway pieces directly, on the spot.
More as the week continues.
