At Milan Fashion Week, MM6 Maison Margiela proved once again that true collaboration is about conceptual disruption rather than merely slapping a logo onto an everyday staple. Debuting on the Spring/Summer 2027 runway, the house unveiled a subversively playful partnership with Brazilian footwear giant Havaianas, centering the entire design narrative around Margiela’s signature number six.

The runway preview featured two distinct interpretations of Havaianas’ iconic rubber thong: the Slim 6Toe and the Top 6Layers. The Slim 6Toe reshapes the classic silhouette into a barefoot-inspired contour featuring a surreal sixth toe. Meanwhile, the runway-exclusive Top 6Layers pushed the concept into architectural territory by stacking six differently shaped multicolored Havaianas soles into an intentionally irregular platform.
While the dramatic six-layered platform was created solely as a showpiece, the Slim 6Toe is set for an official commercial release in May 2027. By deconstructing a global daily essential through Margiela’s avant-garde lens, the collaboration delivers a witty, elevated take on casual footwear that transforms the humble flip-flop into a collector’s piece.
